37/8 or 4 ⅝.
7 ⅞ is equal to 63/8.
3 ¼ is equal to 13/4 which is equal to 26/8.
63/8 - 26/8 = 37/8 or 4 ⅝.

7 and 7/8=63/8 and 3 and 1/4=13/4. 63/8 and 13/4 as common denominators are 63/8 and 26/8. 63/8-26/8=37/8. 37/8 as a mixed number is 4 5/8.
