If there is a circle if you split that in half and ate it, that is 1/2. If you split the pizza in 12 pieces and ate 5, that is 5/12. Half a pizza left is bigger than 5/12 of one

5/12 is less than 1/2 because 6/12 = 1/2
Therefore, there are not enough 1/12 pieces to equal or exceed 1/2.
