The doctor orders heparin 500 units subcutaneously. On hand you have heparin 1,000 units/ml. How many ml do you prepare for this patient? Show the steps to how you got this answer?

The answer would be .5mL.

You are required to give 500 units from a 1,000 units/1mL.

You will put "how much you need to give" over "how much on hand" and multiply it by how many mL's you have.

500 / 1000 = .5

So, you would give the patient 0.5mL of Heparin SQ.
