Some federalists feared democracy because they felt it would give political power to uneducated citizens.
Federalists were a group of Americans who wanted a stronger central (aka federal) government. Along with this, federalists were in favor of state legislatures picking Senators as well as the use of the electoral college system. This was based on their worries concerning what the "average" American would vote for. Ultimately, the federalists believed strongly that the wealthiest and most educated people in society should be the ones with the ability to vote.
