Your equation would be
5(4.95) + x = 32
open parenthesis
24.75 + x = 32
Get x on one side of the eqation:
x = 32 - 24.75
solve
x = 7.75
The one time fee to rent the shoes is $7.75
Hope this helps!

Answer with explanation:

By considering the given problem , we have

Cost of each game = $4.95

Total cost of game = Cost of each game x Number of games + Fixed fee (1)

Let 'a' be the fixed fee paid by Brandon, 'x' be the number of games and 'y' be the total cost of the game , then we have the following equation.

y=4.95x+a (Substitute all values in (1)) (2)

Brandon played 5 games and paid $32.

Put x= 5 and y= 32 in (2) , we get

(32)=4.95(5)+a

32=24.75+a\\\\\Rightarrow\ a=32-24.75=7.25

Fixed fee = $7.25

Using this values , we get

Linear equation to find the cost of the shoes :
y=4.95x+a , where 'a' be the fixed fee( cost to rent the shoes ) paid by Brandon, 'x' be the number of games and 'y' be the total cost of the game.

The cost to rent the shoes = $7.25
