How can an experiment support or fail to support a hypothesis

An experiment can support the hypothesis either way. It all depends on what the hypothesis was or wasn't supporting or suggesting. For example, if the hypothesis was assuming the experiment failed, and it did, then the experiment supported the hypothesis.
