Answer: Eugene Victor Debs

Eugene Victor Debs was born of French immigrant parents in Indiana and became an active labor organizer 1870s. He created the American Railway Union (ARU), an industrial union (Industrial Workers of the World/IWW) in 1893. For five times, he became a candidate of the Socialist Party of America for President of the United States from 1900 to 1920.
