Answer:

The mistake is done in step 1.

Correct answer is
x+6+3(x + 4)=4x+18

Explanation:

Given : Yessenia simplified an expression
x + 6 + 3(x + 4)

Step 1 -
x + 9(x + 4)

Step 2 -
x + 9x + 36

Step 3 -
10x + 36

To find : In which step did Yessenia make a mistake? What should she have done instead?

Solution :

The mistake is done in step 1.

As she cannot add 6 and 3 because 3 is in multiple with (x+4).

The correct steps are,

Given :
x + 6 + 3(x + 4)

Step 1 - Multiply 3 under bracket,

x + 6 + 3x +12

Step 2 - Add like terms,

4x+18

Therefore, The required result is
x+6+3(x + 4)=4x+18
