-x = 62 - 18y

2x = 38 - 18y

I will use elimination to solve the system

Multiply the first equation by -1

X = -62 + 18y

Then add this to the second equation

+X = -62 + 18y

2x = 38 - 18y

---------------------

3x = -24 +0y

Divide each side by 3

3x/3 = -24/3

x = -8

Then solve for y

-x = 62 -18y

Substitute the x I just found

- (-8) = 62 -18y

8 = 62 -18y

Subtract 62 from each side

8 -62 = 62-62-18y

-54 = -18y

Divide each side by -18

-54/-18 = -18y/-18

3 = y
