We need find the value of "5 times 2/3" using model.

2/3 can be represented by a rectangle in which 2 out of 3 parts are colored.

When we find 5 times 2/3, then the total colored parts are 10

5 times 2/3 is the same that Add 2/3 five times, that is:

5 x 2/3 = 2/3 + 2/3 + 2/3 + 2/3 + 2/3

take into account that the sum of fractions with the same denominators is equal to the sum of the numerators, over the common denominator, as follow:

2/3 + 2/3 + 2/3 + 2/3 + 2/3 = 10/3

The model is shown below:

You can notice that each rectangle has 2 blue parts of the total three parts, that is, 2/3. And due to there are other five rectangles with 2/3 of blue parts, then, you have 5 times 2/3, or 5 x 2/3 = 10/3.
