Final answer:

The element with a valence electron configuration of 4s^2 is calcium (Ca).

Step-by-step explanation:

The element with a valence electron configuration of 4s2 is calcium (Ca). In the periodic table, calcium is located in Group 2 (alkaline earth metals) and Period 4. Its electron configuration is 1s22s22p63s23p64s2. The valence electrons are the two electrons in the 4s subshell.

It is in period 4 bc it has a 4 in 4s2.  Look at last element in that period.  It is Krypton(36).  The extra 2 electrons are from 4s^2. Add 36 + 2 to get 38, or Strontium.
