It is difficult for small farmers in Colombia to produce enough to feed their families because they focus on growing a single cash crop.
The primary cash crops in Colombia are coffee, cut flowers, bananas, rice, tobacco, corn, sugarcane, and cocoa. If a farmer decides to produce only one of these things in order to make more money, they will not have enough variety of fruits or vegetables to feed their family. However, hopefully the money they earn will allow to buy what their family needs.
