Acetylcholine is rapidly removed by enzymatic breakdown.As the brain cells of an Alzheimer patient dies, excess amount of glutamate is released.So patients with Alzheimer's disease tend to have abnormally depleted levels of acetylcholine and abnormally higher levels of glutamate.
