It is likely that the baby has croup, a respiratory condition caused by infection in the lungs. Infection cause swelling in the lungs, which can become severe that it can cut off breathing. Since the patient is an infant, the nurse may have to do almost constant monitoring. The nurse should do ways to make the baby stop crying (reduces oxygen demands) while measuring breathing quite often. Nurse should make ready a breathing tube kit to use if baby’s breathing becomes labored.
