Brody bought headphones online for $39. He used a coupon code to get a 20% discount. The website also applied a 10% processing fee to the price after the discount. Brody's headphones were less than the original price by what percent? Round to the nearest whole number.

Let the original price of the headphone be P

price after 20% discount has been deducted = P - 0.2P = 0.8P

processing fee = 10% of discounted price = 0.1 x 0.8P = 0.08P

total price paid for the headphone = 0.8P + 0.08P = 0.88P

this amount is equal to $39 (given from the question)

0.88P = 39

P = 39/0.88 = $44.318

Original price of the headphone = $44.318

differnce between original price and price bought = $44.318 - $39 = $5.318

in percentage,

we have

\begin{gathered} (5.318)/(44.318)\text{ }*\text{ 100 = } \\ 11.9996\text{\%} \\ \approx\text{ 12\% (nearest whole number)} \end{gathered}
