How did buying on credit impact people in the 1920's? HELP ASAP!

Buying on credit was one of the reasons we had the great depression. Many Americans abused the credit system. They would continuously buy items, and appliances on credit. Some even bought clothing and other smaller items. However, the credit needed to be payed back, and many Americans couldn't afford the billsas one of the reasons we had the great depression.
