Allison spent a total of 16.20 for lunch at burrito de lite, including tax and tip. She paid 8 percent sales tax on her purchase and then left the waiter a tip equivalent to 20 percent of her total bill including tax. What was the cost of Allison's meal, before tax and the tip?

Let the cost of the meal be x.
Total cost=(x+0.08x)(1.20)=16.20.
1.08×1.20x=16.20, 1.296x=16.20, so x=12.50.
The meal cost 12.50 before tax and tip.
