The statement is true.

In 1975, Saigon, which was the capital of South Vietnam, fell into North Vietnam and Viet Cong's hands. As a result, South Vietnam surrendered because they no longer had the support of the United States' troops and the Vietnam War came to an end. In that way, the Communist North Vietnamese government got to have control over both North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Moreover, the communists renamed Saigon as H-o Chi Minh City.
