The purpose of this passage is clearly the need to create a unified Homefront during times of war. It is imperative that citizens at home combine their efforts in order to make sure that the country can be victorious in war and therefore be able to continue their way of life. It is important that individual citizens give back to the war. During the world wars, many American citizen bought Bonds to help finance the war, create Victory Gardens so they don't take food away from soldiers, and share rides in order to save oil and gasoline. These efforts were promoted by propaganda that also served as reminders that the country needs to pull their efforts and resources together in time of war.
