A student solved the problem this way.

1 1/2 m = 1.5 m
Let n represent the amount Tang paid for rope.
n = 1.5 Ă— $1.30
n = $1.95
Tang spent $1.95.

1 1/8 = 1.125

2 2/8 = 2.25

1.125 +2.25 = 3.375 yards total

n = 3.375 x 4.30

n = 14.5125 rounds to $14.51 total
