y = kx.  If the graph of this line goes thru (5,8), then    8 = k(5), or k = 8/5 (ans)

Answer:

The constant of variation is
(8)/(5)

Explanation:

In order to find the constant of variation we have:

y=kx

Therefore

k=(y)/(x)

Now, we have the point (5,8); its coordinates are:

(x,y) = (5,8)

Therefore:

x=5\\y=8

Replacing values:

k=(y)/(x)=(8)/(5)
