Answer: 175 miles

Explanation:

Formula for distance :
\text{Distance=Speed x Time}

Let v denotes the speed ,t denotes the time and d denotes the distance.

According to the given statement , we have

v_1=30\ mph
t_1=0.5\ hours

v_2=80 mph
t_2=2\ hours

Then,
d_1=v_1 t_1\ \ \ \ d_2=v_2t_2

Substitute values,

d_1=30*0.5\ \ \ \ d_2=80*2

Simplify,

d_1=15\ miles\ \ \ \ d_2=160\ miles

Now , the total distance =
d_1+d_2

=15+160=175\ miles

Hence , he drove 175 miles.

30 mph for 0.5 hrs = 15 miles

80 mph for 2 hours = 160 miles

160 +15 = 175 miles total
