George indicates that when he initially started going with Lennie he thought that it was amusing to play tricks on him. One day he requested Lennie to hop in a waterway despite the fact that he couldn't swim and Lennie foolishly complied. After George angled him out, Lennie was totally appreciative, having overlooked that George had requested him into the waterway in any case. After this scene, George ruled against having a fabulous time to Lennie's detriment.
