The main function of the Golgi apparatus is to modify, sort and package the macromolecules that are synthesized by the cells for secretion purposes or for use within the cell. It mainly modifies the proteins that are prepared by the rough endoplasmic reticulum.

The function of the Golgi Complex, also known as the "Golgi Apparatus", or "Golgi Body", is to process molecules like lipids and proteins. The Golgi Complex is one of the most major eukaryotic organelles.
