1. Harriet Tubman was a strong, determined woman born into the injustice of slavery. She became an important link in the Underground Railroad, guiding runaway slaves to freedom in the North. If she were to be caught doing this, it meant certain death. Despite grave danger, she returned time and again to help free more slaves.

Thomas Edison had many failures in his career as an inventor, and the average person may never know about those failures. He was dedicated, though, and used every failure as a stepping stone, making adjustments to the inventions until he was successful. He was a prolific inventor who developed many modern conveniences, over 1,000 inventions that include the light bulb and the motion picture camera.

Susan B. Anthony made it a priority for women to earn the right to vote in American. Traveling throughout the country, she spoke tirelessly about equal rights and encouraged other to join the cause. She voted in Rochester, NY and was arrested for her action. Susan B Anthony because president of the Nation American Woman Suffrage Association in 1892. She never saw her dream become reality, as she died in 1906 but the Nineteenth Amendment (giving women the right to vote) was not passed until 1920. The Nineteenth Amendment is often referred to as the Susan B. Anthony Amendment.
