The selling price of the refrigerator is $400.

Required:

The original price of the refrigerator.

Consider,

x is the original price of the refrigerator.

The selling price of the refrigerator is two-fifths of the original price.

According to the question,


\begin{gathered} two-fifth\text{ of original price = selling price} \\ (2)/(5)* x=\text{ }400 \\ x=400*(5)/(2) \\ x=200*5 \\ x=1000 \end{gathered}

Hence, the original price of the refrigerator is $1000.
