Write using algebra.

A bucket holds c liters of water, but a jar holds 8 liters less. How many times as much water can the bucket hold as the jar?

Let's just say that:
B = Bucket
J = Jar.

The amount of water J can hold is 8 liters less than B. So:
J = C - 8
(C represent the amount of water the bucket can hold)

And let's do the same for B. Since B holds C amount of water, the expression for this is:
B = C
