a rectangle has a side length 2x+9 and side width x. If the perimeter is 36 cm, what is the value of x?

2(2x + 9) + 2(x) = 36

4x + 18 + 2x = 36

Combine like terms.

6x + 18 = 36

Subtract 18 from both sides.

6x = 18

Divide 6 on both sides.

x = 3
