How is reactivity of elements related to valence electrons

The number of valence electrons determines reactivity.
For example, Noble Gases are not very reactive because they already have a full set of 8 valence electrons.
However, those with less electrons are more reactive because they don’t have a “full set” yet.
Also, keep in mind that as you move down a family the reactivity decreases.
