2j + 5t = 12

Solve by elimination

-40j - 15t = -155

6j +15t = 36

- 34j = -119

j = -119/-34

j = $ 3.5

Find t

8(3.5) + 3t = 31

28 + 3t = 31

3t = 31 - 28

3t = 3

t = 3/3

t = $1

The cost of 1 pound of jelly beans = $3.5

The cost of 1 pond of trail mix = $1
