Answer:

(- 4, 1 )

Explanation:

Given the 2 equations

x + 3y = - 1 → (1)

- 2x - 3y = 5 → (2)

Adding the 2 equations term by term will eliminate the y- term

- x + 0 = 4

- x = 4 ( multiply both sides by - 1 )

x = - 4

Substitute x = - 4 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

Substituting into (1)

- 4 + 3y = - 1 ( add 4 to both sides )

3y = 3 ( divide both sides by 3 )

y = 1

solution is (- 4, 1 )
