Equation

AB + BC = AC

(3x + 1 ) + (4x - 5) = 8x - 9

3x + 1 + 4x - 5 = 8x - 9

3x + 4x - 8x = -9 + 5 - 1

-x = -5

x = 5

AB = 3(5) + 1 = 15 + 1 = 16

BC = 4(5) -5 = 20 - 5 = 15

AC = 8(5) - 9 = 40 - 9 = 31
