Two angles are supplementary if their sum is 180 degrees. The larger angle is 4 degrees more than seven times the measure of the smaller angle. Let I represent the measure of the smaller angle and these two angles are supplementary, find the measure of each angle. Smaller angle measures degrees. Larger angle measures degrees. Aortion Hols. Answer:

The smaller angle measures 22 degrees

The larger angle measures 158 degrees

Explanations:

Let the smaller angle be represented by a

Let the larger angle be represented by b

The sum of the two angles equals 180 degrees (Supplementary angles)

a + b = 180...................................(1)

The larger angle is 4 degrees more than seven times the smaller angle:

b = 7a + 4...................................(2)

Substitute equation (2) into equation (1)

a + (7a + 4) = 180

8a + 4 = 180

8a = 180 - 4

8a = 176

a = 176/8

a = 22

Substitute a = 22 into equation (2)

b = 7(22) + 4

b = 154 + 4

b = 158

The smaller angle measures 22 degrees

The larger angle measures 158 degrees
