Explanation:

Using the exterior angle theorem, we know that y = 90 + 6x, and y also equals 180-(5x+2)

So we can write an equality statement

90+6x=180-(5x+2)

Open parenethesis

90+6x=180-5x-2

Same to both sides

6x = 88 - 5x

11x = 88

x=8

Check work:

11x + 2 = 90

88+2 = 90

90 does equal 90.
