Your friend asks you for a ride to the local store. Your friend tells you that it will be a short trip but they really need to get something at the store. You agree to give them a ride. Your friend goes into the store while you wait in the car. While your friend is in the store they commit armed robbery. They run out of the store and jump back into your car. They tell you to drive quickly away from the store. You follow what they say because you do not realize that they robbed the store. Your friend is arrested and charged for the crime. Should they charge you as an accessory to the crime too? Please explain.

Answer:

Simply, yes. You were the cause of a crime. There is not any getting out of it. If he or she realized that their friend did that, they wouldn't have drove away.
