what advise would you give to a supervisor using the theory x approach to leadership and has been meeting with much opposition?

There could be a need to transition to the Theory Y approach. Taking the view that work (and getting enjoyment from it) is a more natural, self-directed endeavor may give the employees more of a reason to want to do the work, instead of constantly feeling like they're being directed and forced to do the work.
