Given,

A car averages 27 miles per gallon.

The gas cost is $4.04 per gallon.

To find: The cost of the gas.

Solution:

We are given the ratio

1\text{ gallon : 27 miles }

Which can also be written as

\frac{1\text{ gallon}}{27\text{ miles}}

Travelling 2,727 miles at a ratio of

\frac{1\text{ gallon}}{27\text{ miles }}
2,727\text{ miles}*\frac{1\text{ gallon}}{27\text{ miles}}=101\text{ gallons}

At a cost of $ 4.04 per gallon.

This would cost

(4.04)/(gallon)*101\text{ gallons=408.04}

Thus, the given option (c) is correct.
