Drawing a parabola

We are given the following information about a parabola:

Vertex: (1,4)

Roots (solutions): x=-1 , x=3

y-intercept: (0,3).

The roots correspond to the points (-1,0) (3,0)

This means the parabola passes through the points: (1,4) (0,3) (-1,0) (3,0).

I'll plot the points on the grid as follows:

The four points suggest the parabola is concave down.

Now I'll complete the drawing of the parabola (approximately)

The vertex marks the axis of symmetry. Since the parabola is vertical, the axis of symmetry is vertical also, thus:

The axis of symmetry is x = 1.
