(CD)/(CA)=(CE)/(CB)

To find CD, you solve the equation above for CD:

As CD is beeing divided into CA, you multiply both sides of the equation by CA:

\begin{gathered} CA\cdot(CD)/(CA)=CA\cdot(CE)/(CB) \\ \\ CD=(CA\cdot CE)/(CB) \end{gathered}

Then, for the given values:

CB=CE+EB
CD=(CA\cdot CE)/(CE+EB)

CD=(18\cdot20)/(20+25)=(360)/(45)=8
