Organizational membership is considered a form of social capital because it is a resource individuals have access to as a result of their social relationships.
The relationship between social capital and inequality lies in the fact that differential social capital generates differential economic opportunities. The individuals tend to associate with similar others. So the most powerful, wealthy, and prestigious people end up with much more social capital than those with less power, wealth, and prestige.
