Mental studies, defining of mental illnesses and diseases, and diagnoses have helped many, many people. There are still many issues behind mental health though. Many go the majority of their with undiagnosed mental illness. For instance, a person with undiagnosed ADHD can struggle with school which can cause them to fail classes and impact their adulthood as well. This is true with split personality disorder because it is one of the most difficult to diagnose. In the case of Jekyll and Hyde, this is a representation of the modern dilemma we have with undiagnosed mental disorders.

Nowadays, we can see two problems: the duality of human nature an the importance of reputation. In "the strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", Jekyll says that "man is not truly one but truly two" and he imagines that the soul is a battleground for an angel and a demon.

Reputation is also important for the characters of the novel, this is evident in the way that Utterson and Enfield avoid gossip, they see gossip as a destroyer of respectability.
