The radio station has 100 tickets to give away.

They gave 3 times as many tickets to the listeners as to the employees.

Let x represent the amount of tickets they gave to their employees, if the listeners received 3 times more then it can be expressed as 3x

And logically, both expressions have to add up to the total of tickets available, so:

3x+x=100

From this expression you can determine the value of x:

\begin{gathered} 3x+x=100 \\ 4x=100 \\ (4x)/(4)=(100)/(4) \\ x=25 \end{gathered}

They gave away 25 tickets to the empoyees.
