The median of statistical data can be obtained by finding the middle of the data.

The first step is to re-arrange the data from smallest to the biggest

Given: 62, 47, 56, 64, 52, 61

Re-arranging, we will get 47, 52, 56, 61, 62, 64

We can see that there are two middle numbers which are 56 and 61

The next step is to find the average of the two numbers,

\text{Average = }\frac{sum\text{ of numbers }}{total\text{ numbers}}

\text{average =}\frac{56\text{ + 61}}{2}\text{ =}(117)/(2)

average = 58.5

Therefore the median = average = 58.5

The median height of classmate = 58.5 inches

David asked six of his classmates how tall they were (in inches): 62, 47, 56, 64, 52, 61. What-example-1
