we need to solve the following equation:

-4(3x+1)+x-3=15

we will first apply the distributive law to the parenthesis

-12x-4+x-3=15

the we operate similar terms:

(-12x+x)+(-4-3)=15

simplifying

-11x=15+7
-11x=22

finally we divide by -11 in both sides of the equality

(-11x)/(-11)=(22)/(-11)

and simplifying, we obtain that:

x=-2
