James's second policy of enforcing his catholic ideas became a problem for the public. In 1688 he ordered the reissue of the Declaration of indulgences to be read by all Anglican clergy. This further enraged the people of protestant faith. Those asked the king for the reconsideration of the order were tried for sedition. The public opinion for religious tolerance thus came to be a vital element in the overthrow of Jame's second and coming of the new protestant King William of Orange.
