to vertically shrink a function by a factor of c, multiply the whole function by c

f(x) vertically shrunk by a factor of c would be cf(x)

so f(x)=-3|x-4| vertically shrunk by a factor of 1/2 would be
f(x)=((-3)/(2))|x-4|
