if you multiply 1 by 34, you have to also do 4*34=136 parts water and 34 parts sugar.

1 part sugar : 4 parts water
3/4 cup of sugar.
1/4 = 3/4 : x
x = 4 * 3/4
x = 12/4
x = 3 part water
