Print Problem Abiba, Belva, and Chen are e-pals. Their online friendship includes examining similarities and differences among their home towns. A recent discussion revolved around the theft of Chen's bike. This unfortunate incident made them wonder in which city a bike theft was most likely to occur They decided a comparison of statistics would be appropriate, and each agreed to do a little research for this topic. Abiba found that 7 bicycles had been stolen in her town in the past year. Belva discovered that there were 75 stolen bicycles in her town in the past year. Chen's resource cited 50 bikes taken in his town in the last year. With this information it looks as if Abiba's bike would be pretty safe, but Belva might want to be a little more cautious and keep her bike locked up The e-pals decided that this wasn't enough information to make a comparison, as Abiba lives in a town of 10,000 people, the population of Belva's city is 500 000 people, and Chen resides in a city of 100 000 people Considering the population of each city, in which city would your bike be most secure?

Given:

Number of people in Abiba's town = 10,000

Number of bicycles stolen a year = 7

Number of people in Belva's town = 500,000

Number of bicycles stolen a year = 75

Number of people in Chen's town = 100,000

Number of bicycles stolen a year = 50

Let's determine which city would a bike be most secured.

To determine the city, find the average per town stolen in each town in the past year. The town with the latest average would be the most secured.

Apply the formula:

A=\frac{\text{Number of people}}{\text{Number of bikes stolen}}

Thus, we have:

\text{Abiba's town avg=}(10000)/(7)=1428.6
\text{Belva's town avg=}(500000)/(75)=6666.7
\text{Chen's twon avg=}(100000)/(50)=2000

Since Abiba's town has the lowest average number of bikes stolen per year, the city in which your bike would be most secured is Abiba's town.

ANSWER:

Abiba's town would be the most secured
