Answer:

Let x be the number of hardcover and y be number of paperback

Then the equations are :---

  1. 8x+7y=76 .............(i)
  2. x+y=10 ..............(ii)

Multiplying the second equation with 7 and substrating it from the first equation we get,

  • (8x+7y)-(7x+7y)= (76-70)
  • x=6

Therefore, bookstore sold 6 hardcover.

6 is the right answer.

Answer:

  • 6 hardcover books

Explanation:

Let h be hardcover and p be paperback

We have following equations:

  • 8h + 7p = 76
  • h + p = 10

Multiply the second equation by 7 and subtract from the first equation:

  • 8h + 7p - 7h - 7p = 76 - 70
  • h = 6
