Write the equation of the line that is parallel to y=3x+2 and goes through point (5,-2)

y=3x+2, so the slope is 3 since it is the m value. A parallel line must have the same slope.

Plug the coordinates into point slope form
y-(-2)=3(x-5)
y+2=3x-15
y=3x-17

Final answer: y=3x-17
